The Composition of images found in Tom’s art conjure his stories.
Yesterday. Today. Contemplative or resolute. Tom’s pencil originals are a result of an unusual blend of talent...the eye for design and hand for detailing authenticity in his subject matter. This authenticity provides the depth of description essential to further developing a good story and good art. However, the stories develop in the imaginations of those who gaze at the art of Tom Greenwood.
“My art deals with realism and moments in time. My favorite medium is pencil. I like the feel, depth and detail I achieve from pencil using light and dark tones to bring out the visual character of my drawings.” Tom’s original art spans from western still life’s, the American Indian and Cowboy past and present, to portraits of children and people in a unique style that is refreshing and dramatic.
“I’m a born and raised Texan and love the mythology of Texas and the Old West.” Tom was born in Waco, Texas but moved out to West Texas at the age of 4. “I grew up in the rural areas of the Texas Panhandle, drawing everything in sight for as long as I can remember.” Graduating from Pampa High School in 1970, Tom studied advertising at Texas Tech and received a degree in commercial art and advertising in 1974 from TSTI in Waco. After being the art director at an advertising firm in Dallas, he opened Greenwood Art Studio in 1977, specializing in commercial art, fine art and advertising, in Fort Worth, Texas. Tom currently resides in Hurst, Texas.
